Industry Placements
Support and Guidance for Employers
Real-world experience is a vital part of the study programmes for many of our vocational qualifications. Each year, we successfully place thousands of students into meaningful work placements, helping them gain the practical skills and confidence they need for their future careers.
This is often their first taster of working, so we like to make sure that every placement is as beneficial for them as possible.
We are always looking for employers—from sole traders to large businesses—who are willing to support the next generation of professionals. If you can offer a placement or voice, we’d love to hear from you.
What’s involved?
- Placement Duration: Industry placements can range from 36 hours to 750 hours across one to two years, depending on the course and qualification.
- Meaningful Experience: Learners are placed with professionals in the field they are training for. While customer service and a good cup of tea is important, what matters most is real, hands-on experience in the workplace.
- Health & Safety: We’ll carry out a health and safety check to ensure the environment is suitable for learners aged 16–19.
- Insurance: You’ll need to provide a copy of your Employer’s Liability Insurance Certificate.
- T Level Learners: Additional paperwork is required for T Level placements—but don’t worry, we’ll guide you through everything.
- Feedback: We’ll ask for a short feedback form at the end of the placement to reflect on the student’s progress and development.
Records
-
The System: We use a system called GroFar. You’ll be glad to know there are no sign-ups required! It’s all run by automatic emails.
-
Checks: Learners submit the details of the placement, which provide us with the information we need to contact employers for the Health and Safety checks mentioned above. Once compliant, we accept the placement.
-
Attendance: Learners log their hours as they attend, and automatic emails are sent to employers on Sunday evenings, ready for Monday morning, to verify! The email contains a link to tick boxes.
-
Feedback: Once the hourly requirement has been met, that’s when feedback requests are sent. That is everything from start to finish!
What you can expect from us?
-
Dedicated Support: You’ll have a named Industry Placement Officer to support you every step of the way.
-
Careful Matching: We’ll help you find the right student who fits your business needs and goals.
Many of our learners go on to full-time employment or apprenticeships after their placement - demonstrating the real value of these opportunities not just for learners, but for employers too.
