This course will prepare you for a career in the sport industry or as a stepping stone to a Higher Education course at University. The Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels.

  • Sports coaching
  • Maths and English

Year two:

  • Research project in sport and exercise sciences
  • Sports biomechanics in action
  • Fitness training and programming
  • Sports injuries
  • Practical team sports
  • Applied sport and exercise psychology
  • Applied sport and exercise physiology
  • Work experience in sport
  • Laboratory and experimental methods in sport and exercise sciences

How will my work be assessed?

Presentations, reports, essays, exhibitions, discussions, group work and individual assessments.

What can I do after this?

Higher education at university or college, including our BSc (Hons) Sport Studies at University Centre Southend.

  • Four GCSEs at grade four/grade C or above in maths, English, science and physical education, or
  • Sport and Active Leisure Level 2 Diploma plus maths and English at grade four/grade C or above, or equivalent
  • Successful attendance at interview event
