My name is Jordan Thorne, I am 21 years old, I studied a BTEC Diploma in Sports Science at South Essex College from 2010-2012 and this is my story.
Before coming to College I was playing and still play semi-professional rugby. During my school years I was always keen to learn sports either theoretically or practically. I chose South Essex College because it had a great reputation for the course I wanted to study.
My time at the College helped me proceed onto higher education. This is due to the vast amount of technical equipment supplied at South Essex College, which has helped massively with understanding equipment at university. There are also great teachers that understand the students and teach with a great deal of knowledge.
I am currently in my final year of a Sports Science degree at the University of Kent and plan to become a teacher when I graduate. Gaining my Level 2 Gym I qualification whilst at South Essex College has given me another career path to follow along with my teaching.
The best thing about further and higher education is that my knowledge of my chosen topic is always being expanded, whilst opening new opportunities every day. My favourite memory of being at the College is going up on stage after two hard years or work and collecting my diploma. It was a very proud moment for me and my family.
I could write for pages and pages as to why South Essex College will be beneficial to students thinking of further education. To sum it up in a sentence… it is a great college full of great teachers and staff, the location of each campus is great for accessibility and it provides futures for students that they may have thought they never had.
