Course Overview
The Introduction to Programming Level 1 Award supports you to develop a basic understanding of computer programming and how programs are created. It is suitable if you have little or no previous experience and want a practical introduction to programming before progressing to further study in digital or computing‑related subjects. During the course, you can learn the core principles of programming, including how programs are planned, built and reviewed.
Learning focuses on helping you understand how programming works and how problems are translated into digital solutions using simple logic and structure. You will have the opportunity to design a simple computer program in response to a brief, developing skills in planning and problem solving. The course introduces you to text‑based and graphic‑based programming approaches, allowing you to understand how different programming tools and environments are used to create functional programs. You will also learn how to test, document and review your program, helping you understand the importance of accuracy, improvement and reflection in programming tasks.
By the end of the course, you will have developed a foundation understanding of programming and practical skills that support progression to further digital, IT or computing study. This course is delivered at our Centre for Digital Technologies in Basildon.
