Course Overview

The Engineering (Mechatronics Pathway) Level 3 Apprenticeship is designed for learners who want to work in advanced manufacturing and engineering environments where automated systems and machinery play a key role.

It is suitable for those employed in the sector who want to develop the skills needed to maintain, repair and improve complex plant and equipment. Throughout the apprenticeship, learners develop a broad range of technical skills across mechanical, electrical, electronic and control systems.

They gain experience in installing, testing and fault‑finding automated equipment, as well as carrying out planned and reactive maintenance to support safety, quality, productivity and cost efficiency within high‑value manufacturing settings. The programme is delivered through a blend of college‑based learning and workplace training.

Learners complete an induction period before progressing through full‑time college study, day‑release learning and work‑based training as the apprenticeship advances. Regular reviews, workplace visits and the development of an evidence portfolio support ongoing progress and skill development.

By the end of the apprenticeship, learners will have achieved the required skills, knowledge and behaviours to work confidently as a mechatronics maintenance technician. Successful completion includes a final end‑point assessment and recognised engineering qualifications, supporting progression into skilled employment within advanced manufacturing and long‑term career development in the engineering sector. This course is delivered at our Luckyn Lane campus.
