Course Overview

The Level 3 Digital Development and Cybersecurity course supports you to develop advanced digital and computing skills alongside A Level study. It forms part of the Computing Pathway and is offered as an option alongside subjects such as A Level Maths and Physics, supporting progression into higher‑education study and careers within IT and computing‑related fields. During the course, you can build a strong foundation in programming and digital development.

Learning focuses on core computing concepts and how they are applied through programming techniques, software design methodologies and practical problem solving. You will develop skills that reflect how software solutions are designed, created and managed in professional contexts. You will also explore computer network security and encryption, gaining an understanding of different types of security threats, why they occur and how they are prevented.

The course introduces relevant regulations, security tools and methods used to detect and manage cyber risks, alongside key encryption concepts that protect data and systems. Human‑Computer Interaction is another key area of study, helping you understand how digital systems are designed with users in mind. You will explore user experience and user interface design principles and learn how software can be developed to meet the diverse needs of users. Practical programming activities allow you to apply computer science principles to real digital development scenarios.

By the end of the course, you will have developed technical knowledge, analytical thinking and practical programming skills that support progression into higher education courses such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Games and Animation, or related digital and cybersecurity pathways.
