Course Overview
The Fashion Theatre and Media Hair and Makeup Level 3 Diploma is designed for learners who want to develop the skills, confidence and experience needed to pursue a career as a professional hair and make‑up artist. It is suitable for those who are interested in working across theatre, fashion, film, television and media, and who enjoy creative, practical work.
Throughout the course, learners develop a wide range of specialist make‑up and hair skills used within the industry. This includes fashion and photographic make‑up, media make‑up, camouflage techniques, airbrushing and fantasy hair design. Learners also gain experience working with postiche, prosthetics and character design, helping them understand how looks are created for different productions and performance settings.
Learning also focuses on professional practice, including client care, communication and health and safety, ensuring learners are prepared for working with clients and production teams. Learners also study specialist areas such as prosthetics creation and production planning, gaining insight into a range of industry settings and pathways.
By the end of the course, learners will have developed a strong set of practical hair and make‑up skills and a clearer understanding of working within theatre, media and fashion environments. This qualification supports progression into further study, training or employment within the hair and make‑up industry, providing a solid foundation for creative careers across performance and media.
This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment.
