Course Overview

The Maritime Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship supports you to develop the core knowledge, skills and professional behaviours needed to work as an engineering technician on marine‑based vessels. It is suitable if you are working, or aiming to work, within the maritime or marine engineering sector and want to build competence in maintaining and supporting marine systems and equipment.

During the apprenticeship, you will develop practical and technical skills relevant to the operation, maintenance and support of marine vessels. Learning focuses on how engineering principles are applied within maritime environments, helping you understand how systems function and how skilled engineering tasks are carried out safely and effectively.

The apprenticeship is delivered as a day‑release programme, with attendance at the Luckyn Lane campus one day per week for practical and theoretical training during the first three years. In the final year, learning is delivered fully in the workplace, allowing you to apply your skills and knowledge in real operational settings and build confidence in your role.

Throughout the programme, you will work towards a structured set of maritime engineering qualifications that support your development from foundation knowledge and competence through to advanced technical understanding. Learning supports safe working practices, problem solving and professional communication alongside hands‑on engineering tasks.

By the end of the apprenticeship, you will have developed the skills, knowledge and experience needed to work competently as a Maritime Engineering Technician. This apprenticeship supports progression within marine engineering, defence and maritime operations, and provides a strong foundation for continued professional development within the engineering sector. This course is delivered at our Luckyn Lane campus.
