Principles of Management and Leadership CMI Level 3 Diploma (Online and On Campus)

The Principles of Management and Leadership CMI Level 3 Diploma supports you to develop essential leadership and management skills while balancing study with work and other commitments. Delivered through a blended model of online learning and on‑campus teaching, this course gives you flexibility without losing the benefits of guided, face‑to‑face support. Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute, the course is suitable if you are working as, or aspiring to become, a team leader or supervisor. It is also ideal if you are at the beginning of your leadership journey or already in a management role and want to strengthen your understanding of core management and leadership principles. Online, you will study award‑winning video lessons that are available on demand and can be accessed from your phone, tablet or computer. Lessons last around 45–60 minutes and use animations and motion graphics to explain key concepts clearly. 

Online learning is supported by practice questions, downloadable materials and interactive case studies, with an expectation of around 3–4 hours of independent study each week. On campus, you will attend regular daytime classes with a college tutor, held fortnightly every other Thursday. These sessions allow you to revisit and consolidate what you have learned online, receive guidance on progress and assessment, and take part in group discussions. Working alongside other learners provides additional support, motivation and the opportunity to share experiences. 

Throughout the course, you will explore principles of management and leadership, managing teams to achieve results, building stakeholder relationships through effective communication, contributing to projects, and managing daily activities, budgets, resources, data and information. You will also focus on managing your own personal and professional development. 

By the end of the course, you will have developed a strong foundation in leadership and management practice. This qualification supports progression into supervisory or management roles, further leadership study, or continued professional development across a wide range of sectors. This flexible course is delivered by South Essex Colleges Group in partnership with Mindful Education and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.
