  • BTEC Level 3 qualification in Sport or Sport & Exercise Science
  • GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent) and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as maths and English
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution
  • Relevant work experience or an international equivalent to the above qualifications

At the start of the course, learners will be required to apply for (with guidance provided) and pay for an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service Check (DBS) to ensure eligibility for working with young people or vulnerable groups.

A consistent sports coaching placement of a few hours per week is mandatory. While we have contacts and potential placements available, learners are also encouraged to actively network to secure their own opportunities.

You will be assessed through written assignments:

These are typically individual tasks where you are given a specific topic or problem to address. You will need to produce a written response or essay based on your understanding and analysis of the topic.

Group, peer and portfolio assessments:

Group assessments involve collaborating with other students to complete a task or project. This can include activities such as group presentations, group reports, or group discussions. The purpose is to assess your ability to work effectively as part of a team and to achieve collective goals.

Peer assessment involves evaluating the work of your fellow classmates or group members. It allows students to provide feedback and assess each other's performance based on predefined criteria. Peer assessment can be conducted through structured forms, individual feedback, or group discussions.

Portfolio assessment involves collecting and presenting a compilation of your work, which may include assignments, projects, reflections, and other evidence of your learning. Portfolios provide a holistic view of your progress over time and allow for self-reflection on your achievements and areas for improvement.

Practice-related coursework:

Practice-related coursework focuses on applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios or practical tasks. It may involve case studies, simulations, fieldwork, or other hands-on activities that require you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge in a practical context.

The cost of this course is £7,020 for 2027 entry. 

There is an additional fee of £500 for an international trip.

Community coaching is a growing sector with opportunities across sport, education and community organisations. 

On successful completion of this Level 4 Higher Technical Qualification, you could progress into roles within grassroots sport, community programmes, youth development, and health and wellbeing initiatives.

This course will equip you with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to support individuals and communities through sport and physical activity, preparing you for a rewarding career in community coaching and related sectors.
