Course Overview
The GCSE Biology for Adults course is designed for adult learners who need a GCSE in Biology for university entry or who want to study biology out of personal interest. It is suitable for those returning to education and looking to develop a solid understanding of biological concepts and how science applies to the living world. Throughout the course, learners study key areas of biology, including cell biology, organisation, bioenergetics, and how the body responds to infection and change. Learning also covers inheritance, variation and evolution, helping learners understand how traits are passed on and how species adapt over time, alongside ecology and the relationships between organisms and their environments.
The course includes assessed practical activities alongside theoretical learning, allowing learners to develop scientific skills and apply their knowledge in practical contexts. These activities help build confidence in experimental work and scientific thinking, supporting understanding of key ideas across the specification. Assessment takes place through examinations at the end of the course.
By completing GCSE Biology, learners gain a recognised qualification that supports progression into higher education, science‑related courses or careers, and provides a strong foundation for further study in the sciences.
