Course Overview
The IMI Level 2 Subsidiary Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Technology supports you to build on existing automotive knowledge and develop practical skills for working on light vehicles. It is suitable if you want to progress your understanding of vehicle systems and gain experience that supports further training or work within the motor industry.
The programme is delivered over three days each week and includes a mandatory work placement. Through this, you can gain practical experience in an automotive environment, develop teamwork and communication skills, and build awareness of current working practices and developments within the sector.
The placement allows you to apply what you learn in college to real workshop situations. During the course, you can learn a range of motor vehicle practical skills and develop knowledge of vehicle technology, including engine, chassis, transmission and electrical systems. You will also be introduced to fault diagnosis of non‑complex faults and learn how to safely remove and replace vehicle units and components while following health and safety procedures. Maths and English are included to support your progress and strengthen essential skills needed in the workplace.
By the end of the course, you will have developed greater confidence working on vehicles and a solid foundation of skills and knowledge that support progression into further automotive study, apprenticeships or sector‑related pathways. This course is delivered at our Stephenson Road campus.
