Course Overview

The Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection and Testing C&G 2391‑52 course supports you to develop your knowledge and practical skills in inspecting and testing electrical installations in line with current wiring regulations, including BS 7671. It is suitable if you are a practising electrician looking to extend your professional competence and continue your development within the electrical industry.

The qualification offers different pathways depending on the type of inspection and testing you carry out. You can study initial verification, periodic inspection and testing, or a combined route covering both areas. This flexibility allows you to focus on the work you undertake while strengthening your understanding of regulatory and safety requirements. During the course, you can develop a clear understanding of the inspection and testing process, including safety management procedures and the requirements for both inspection and testing of electrical installations.

Learning covers how to assess installation condition, identify non‑compliance and apply testing procedures correctly and safely. Practical inspection and testing form a key part of the course, helping you apply theoretical knowledge in realistic working scenarios.

By the end of the qualification, you will have strengthened your technical knowledge and practical capability, supporting progression from electrician to approved electrician and continued professional development within inspection and testing roles. This course is delivered at our Luckyn Lane campus.

To study this course, you should have a Level 3 diploma in one or more of the following: Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings Structures and the Environment), Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance), Electrotechnical Services (Experienced Worker), Electrotechnical (Experienced Worker), or an equivalent qualification. Alternatively, applicants may hold an ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician, or an Approved Electrician Card.
Assessment will be through a multiple-choice on-line test and a practical task.
The cost of this course is £1000
On successful completion learners can also progress on to the City & Guilds 2396 Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations.
