Course Overview
Are you interested in a hands on career where you can build something real and learn practical skills that employers value? This course is a great introduction to bricklaying and construction, designed to help you develop confidence, practical ability, and safe working habits from day one.
You will work in a realistic construction environment, learning how building sites operate and gaining skills that can lead to Level 2 courses or an apprenticeship in the industry. You will get practical experience in brick and block work, learning how to set out and build masonry structures up to damp proof course level.
The course covers blocklaying, bricklaying, and cavity walling activities, alongside an understanding of the principles of building construction and how information and communication are used on site. Health, safety, and welfare in construction are a key focus throughout, ensuring you learn to work safely and responsibly.
Learning takes place at our Stephenson Road campus, part of Basildon College, where you will train in specialist workshops with experienced tutors who will support you to build skills, confidence, and a strong foundation for your future in construction.
This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment.
