Course Overview

The Level 2 Certificate Technical Occupational Entry in Fitness Coaching supports you to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to begin working within the fitness industry. It is suitable if you are interested in fitness coaching and want a structured introduction to supporting others with exercise, health and physical activity in a gym or health‑club environment.

During the course, you can learn about anatomy, physiology and nutrition, and how these areas relate to exercise and fitness. Learning focuses on helping you understand how the body responds to physical activity and how exercise programmes are designed to support health, wellbeing and performance.

You will develop skills in planning, delivering and supervising safe and effective fitness sessions. This includes conducting client consultations, applying health and safety practices within a fitness environment, and delivering programmes that reflect individual needs and goals. Professional behaviour and customer care are embedded throughout the course, supporting confidence when working with clients. The course also introduces principles of fitness training, lifestyle and nutrition, alongside an understanding of leisure and fitness team operations.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a solid foundation of fitness knowledge, practical coaching skills and professional awareness, supporting progression into employment within gyms or health clubs, or further study in fitness, sport or personal training pathways.

To study this course, you should hold a Level 1 qualification at distinction standard or two GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) in Maths or English, successfully attend an interview event and football trial, and ideally have some experience of gym based exercise including free weights. As the course involves physical exertion, individual participation and practical activity, a suitable level of physical fitness is required. Learners must also demonstrate basic communication skills at Level 2, including the ability to discuss, present, read and write effectively.
You will be assessed through online assessments, assignments, observation and questioning.
