Course Overview

The Level 2 Diploma in Sport - Technical Occupational Entry in Leading Community Activity supports you to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to work within the active leisure and fitness industry. It is suitable if you are interested in roles such as fitness instructing, customer service or leisure operations, and want a solid foundation before progressing to further study or training.

During the course, you will develop an understanding of anatomy, physiology and fitness, and how these principles are applied in real exercise environments. Learning focuses on planning and instructing gym‑based exercise, helping you understand how safe and effective sessions are designed and delivered to meet a range of client needs. You will also build practical skills through planning and instructing circuit training and kettlebell exercise sessions.

These activities help you develop confidence leading sessions, communicating clearly with participants and applying health and safety practices within fitness facilities. Alongside practical instruction, the course covers customer care, working in active leisure facilities and understanding workplace expectations. You will explore managing your own personal and professional development, organising events in active leisure settings, and developing skills that support entry into employment, including interview preparation. Maths and English are included to support your overall development and progression.

By the end of the course, you will have developed practical fitness knowledge, instructional skills and professional awareness that support progression into employment within the leisure and fitness sector or further study in personal training or sports‑related pathways.

To study this course you will need three GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) or above in Maths or English, or a Level 1 qualification. Applicants are also required to successfully attend an interview event.

Assessment for this course includes multiple choice theory exams, assignments and worksheets, and observations.
This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment
After completing this course, you can progress on to further study such as the Level 3 Diploma in Physical Activity, Fitness and Exercise, the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences, or the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Football Academy programmes. These routes support progression into advanced training, higher education, or careers within the sport, fitness, and coaching industries.
