Course Overview

The Music Performance and Production Level 2 Diploma supports you to develop your skills and knowledge if you have an interest in music practice or music production and want to progress within this creative industry. It is suitable if you are ready to build on existing experience and begin to specialise in either music performance or music production.

During the course, you will explore how the music industry operates and how musicians and producers plan, create and deliver professional work. Learning focuses on developing practical skills through industry‑related activities, helping you understand how musical products are developed from initial ideas through to performance or recording. You can develop skills in areas such as musical composition, rehearsal techniques and working as part of an ensemble, alongside producing and recording music using music production software.

The course also supports you to plan and contribute to musical productions, helping you understand how performances and recordings are organised and delivered. Music theory forms part of the programme, supporting your understanding of how music is structured and composed. English and maths are also included to support your overall development and progression.

By the end of the course, you will have developed practical music skills, industry awareness and professional confidence, supporting progression to a Level 3 course in music performance or production.

To study this course, you must hold a Level 1 qualification or two GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) in Maths or English. Applicants will be required to evidence their ability in the subject through an audition and must successfully attend an interview event.
Assessment on this course includes project and portfolio‑based learning, alongside practical tasks and performance activities. You will also evaluate your own work and complete examinations in English and Maths, allowing you to demonstrate both your practical skills and overall understanding.
This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment
You can progress on to: Music Technology Level 3 Extended Diploma or the Music Performance Level 3 Extended Diploma.
