Course Overview
The Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship supports you to develop the skills, knowledge and professional behaviours needed for a career as a plumber working on domestic plumbing and heating systems. It is suitable if you are employed in the industry and want to combine workplace learning with structured training through an apprenticeship.
The course is delivered as a day‑release programme, with attendance at college one day per week to complete both theoretical and practical training alongside your work. Learning focuses on helping you work safely, efficiently and to industry standards in real working environments.
During the apprenticeship, you will develop knowledge of health and safety systems and plumbing and heating science processes, helping you understand how systems operate and how work is carried out safely and effectively. You will also explore plumbing and heating systems in detail, building practical competence in installation, maintenance and repair.
Environmental and energy‑efficient working practices form an important part of the programme, supporting sustainable approaches to modern plumbing and heating work. You will also develop the skills needed to meet work and project plans and manage customer expectations, helping you build professionalism and communication skills alongside technical ability.
By the end of the apprenticeship, you will have developed the practical skills, technical knowledge and workplace behaviours needed to work confidently as a plumbing and domestic heating technician. This qualification supports progression within the plumbing and heating industry and continued professional development as technologies and standards evolve. This course is delivered at our Luckyn Lane campus.
This course is free to apprentices, as the cost is paid by your employer Large companies can fund the course using their apprenticeship levy. SMEs can access government funding to subsidise the cost by 95%.
