Course Overview

The Travel and Tourism Level 3 Extended Diploma supports you to develop the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to prepare for employment within the travel and tourism industry. It is suitable if you want to progress into industry roles or continue onto higher‑level study within travel, tourism or related customer‑focused sectors.

Throughout the course, you will explore how the travel and tourism industry operates and the wide range of career opportunities available. Learning focuses on developing transferable skills that can be applied across different areas of the industry, including travel agencies, tour operators, cruise and hotel operations, conference and events, and the wider hospitality sector. You will study key topics such as the structure of the travel and tourism industry, customer service practices, and a range of domestic and international travel destinations.

The course also covers visitor attractions and the UK conference and events industry, helping you understand how tourism products and services are planned, promoted and delivered. Preparing for a career in travel and tourism forms an important part of the programme, supporting you to develop workplace awareness, communication skills and professional behaviours expected by employers. Learning is industry‑focused and designed to help you build confidence and readiness for work or further study.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a strong foundation of travel and tourism knowledge and transferable skills. This qualification supports progression into employment, apprenticeships or further study within the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.

To study this course you will need four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, which must include Maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification.
Students are assessed through a range of practical and written tasks including reports, role plays, presentations, leaflets and case studies to demonstrate their knowledge, communication and customer service skills. Assessment focuses on the application of learning to real-world travel and tourism scenarios.

This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment.

On completion of this course, you can progress onto further study such as the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism (Year 2) or the Level 2 Cabin Crew and Aviation Operations on the Ground course. You may also choose to move into employment within the travel and tourism industry, with career opportunities including roles such as travel agent, tour operator, hotel staff, cruise staff, conference and events coordinator, online booking assistant, resort representative, or roles specialising in tailor‑made, ski or special interest holidays.
