Step ahead
If you are ready to return to study and take the next step towards university, an Access to HE course could be the perfect place to start. Designed for adults aged 19 and over, these courses help you build the confidence, knowledge and study skills needed for degree level learning.
Our Access to HE programmes are taught online as well as in person at Southend City College, giving you flexibility alongside expert teaching and support.
Choose your pathway
We offer pathways in Art and Design, Health and Social Care, Nursing and Midwifery, Psychology and Sociology, and Science. Each one is designed to prepare you for university and can also lead directly to higher education courses at University Centre South Essex.
Entry requirements
You will need GCSE English and or Maths at grade 4/C or above, or a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification. If you do not yet have the qualifications you need, do not worry, you can study GCSEs alongside the Access to HE course.
Funding support
You may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. Eligibility is not based on income and there are no credit checks. If you go on to complete a higher education course, any outstanding loan balance for your Access to HE course will be written off.
A route built around your future
Our Access to HE students come from all walks of life, from adults changing career to those returning to education after time away. Wherever you are starting from, this is a supportive route into university and new opportunities.
