Course Overview
The Education and Training Level 3 Award is an introductory course for learners who are interested in starting a career in teaching or training.
It is suitable for those who are not yet in a teaching role, have recently started teaching, or want a short qualification to explore whether teaching or training is the right next step for them.
Over a ten‑week period, learners gain an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships involved in education and training. The course covers how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching or training sessions, use appropriate resources, and assess learners’ progress. Learners also develop an understanding of equality, diversity, inclusivity and relevant legislation, helping them recognise how to meet the needs of different learners in a safe and supportive learning environment. The course also develops practical skills in sequencing learning, choosing suitable teaching methods, and providing effective assessment and constructive feedback.
Learners are expected to have an idea of the subject area they would like to teach and to hold, or be working towards, a qualification in that subject. For the upcoming cohort, teaching is delivered remotely online via Microsoft Teams, making the course accessible alongside work or other commitments.
The micro‑teach session, which forms part of the assessment, takes place in person at the Luckyn Lane campus. By completing this qualification, learners gain a foundation understanding of teaching and training and can make informed decisions about progressing into further teacher training or employment in the further education and skills sector.
Applicants must be 19 years old or over and be considering a subject area for delivery, with evidence that they have achieved, or are working towards achieving, appropriate qualifications and experience in that subject or skill area.
You must have suitable literacy levels to read and interpret written tasks and to write clearly and coherently, and you will be required to complete a 30‑minute handwritten exercise at interview to demonstrate this. You must also have access to a suitable environment to take part in remote online delivery sessions and be able to travel to the Luckyn Lane campus to attend the required micro‑teach event.
