Course Overview
The Supply Chain Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver Level 2 Apprenticeship supports you to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to work as a professional large goods vehicle driver within the logistics and supply chain sector. It is suitable if you are employed in a driving role or working towards becoming an LGV driver and want to train through an apprenticeship route.
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop practical driving competence alongside an understanding of the wider transport and logistics industry. Learning focuses on preparing vehicles for use, planning deliveries, driving safely and efficiently, and using equipment correctly. You will also develop awareness of protecting yourself, the vehicle and the load, managing returned goods, and understanding how the supply chain operates.
The programme begins with an induction period, where you will complete initial assessments, receive health and safety training, and develop an understanding of professional expectations and end‑point assessment requirements. English and maths support is included where required, alongside ongoing guidance and progress reviews. During the main on‑programme phase, learning is delivered primarily in the workplace, with regular visits to support your development. You will build evidence through an e‑portfolio, complete industry‑relevant learning materials, and work towards key driving and transport‑related outcomes, including LGV driver training and professional competence requirements.
Functional Skills are included where needed to support your overall progression. Towards the end of the apprenticeship, you will complete a gateway period to confirm that all required skills, knowledge and behaviours have been achieved. This includes preparation for assessments and confirmation of English and maths requirements. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will have developed the practical driving skills, industry knowledge and professional behaviours needed to work confidently as an LGV driver.
This apprenticeship supports progression within the logistics and transport sector and provides a structured route into professional driving roles.
