Course Overview

The Performing and Production Arts (Live Events and Theatre Production) Level 3 Extended Diploma supports you to develop advanced technical, creative and professional skills for working in live events and backstage theatre production. It is suitable if you want a hands‑on course that prepares you for further study or progression into theatre, music, events or corporate production roles. You will learn in the college’s state‑of‑the‑art auditorium, working in an environment designed to reflect real industry practice. Learning focuses on the behind‑the‑scenes roles that support live performance, helping you understand how productions are planned, managed and delivered professionally.

Throughout the course, you will develop knowledge and skills in lighting, sound and set design, alongside production and stage management. You will also build an understanding of professional practice, audience engagement, and critical and contextual awareness, helping you reflect on your work and the wider performance industry. Collaborative projects form a key part of the programme, giving you opportunities to work with performance students across the college and take part in projects involving external clients. These experiences help you develop teamwork, communication and problem‑solving skills while working to industry‑style briefs.

By the end of the course, you will have built a strong portfolio of production experience, technical skills and professional awareness. This qualification supports progression into higher education, apprenticeships or continued training within live events, theatre production and backstage technical pathways.

To study this course, you must hold a Level 2 qualification or four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, including either English or Maths depending on the vocational subject being studied. A relevant performing arts qualification is desirable but not essential. Applicants must also successfully attend an interview event.
Level 3 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts will be internally assessed and externally moderated against the assessment criteria for the units.
This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment
On completion of this course, you can progress into higher education or move directly into careers within the events and performance industry, including roles such as stage manager, lighting designer, sound engineer, venue technician or front of house operations manager.
