Course Overview

The Performing Arts (Acting) Level 3 Extended Diploma supports you to develop the skills, knowledge and experience needed to pursue a future in the performing arts as an actor. It is suitable if you want to progress into drama school, university or further professional training, and are ready to develop your craft to a higher level.

Throughout the course, you will explore a wide range of acting styles and performance contexts. Learning focuses on building versatility and confidence through practical performance work, helping you understand how actors adapt techniques for different genres, audiences and platforms. You will develop skills in classical and contemporary theatre, physical theatre and children’s theatre, alongside gaining experience in acting for film and television. Audition preparation forms a key part of the course, helping you understand professional expectations and how to present yourself confidently in performance settings.

The course also supports your wider artistic development through learning about the historical context of performance and the business of the performing arts industry. You will develop your voice through dedicated voice training and build creative skills through scriptwriting, helping you understand performance from both performer and creator perspectives. Maths and English are included to support your overall progression and professional development.

By the end of the course, you will have developed strong acting skills, performance experience and industry awareness, supporting progression into higher education, drama school or continued study within the performing arts sector.

To study this course you will need four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, including English or Maths depending on the vocational subject to be studied, or a Level 2 qualification. You will also be asked to evidence your ability in the subject in the form of an audition. Applicants are required to successfully attend an interview event.
