Delivered at our new Clean Energy Centre - Basildon, this Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems course supports you to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to install and maintain solar thermal hot water systems. It is suitable if you work, or want to progress, within plumbing, heating or renewable energy roles and want to expand your skills in low‑carbon technologies.

During the course, you will explore the principles of solar heating and how solar thermal systems are used to provide hot water in domestic and small‑scale settings. Learning focuses on selecting the most appropriate system for a building based on the client’s needs, helping you understand how design choices affect performance, efficiency and suitability. You will develop skills in preparing for installation, fitting solar collectors and understanding plumbing layout and system design. The course also covers hot water storage solutions, control and power requirements, and key installation considerations, helping you install systems safely and effectively in line with industry practice. Service, maintenance and system commissioning form an important part of the programme. You will learn how systems are tested, commissioned and handed over to clients, alongside understanding routine maintenance requirements to ensure long‑term performance and reliability.

By the end of the course, you will have developed the knowledge and practical awareness needed to install, commission and maintain solar thermal hot water systems. This qualification supports continued professional development and progression within renewable heating and sustainable energy pathways. This course is delivered at our Luckyn Lane campus.
