Delivered at our Clean Energy Centre (Basildon) at our Luckyn Lane, Basildon. The Water Regulations and Unvented Hot Water Systems course supports you to develop an understanding of the legal and technical requirements that apply to plumbing and hot water systems in the UK. It is suitable if you are training to become a plumber or heating and ventilating engineer, or if you already work in the industry and want to update your knowledge as part of your continuing professional development. During the course, you will explore the key aspects of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Water Byelaws, and how these affect water supply systems and fittings within domestic properties. Learning focuses on understanding compliance requirements and how incorrect installation can affect safety, water quality and system performance. You will also develop knowledge of unvented hot water systems, including their design, features and operation. 

The course covers the installation, commissioning and safety requirements for domestic hot water systems in line with UK Building Regulations, helping you understand how systems are installed and maintained safely and correctly. Health and safety is embedded throughout the programme, supporting awareness of pressure systems, temperature control and protection measures associated with unvented hot water systems. Learning focuses on applying regulations and guidance to real‑world plumbing and heating scenarios. 

By the end of the course, you will have developed a clear understanding of water regulations and the installation and safety requirements of unvented hot water systems. This qualification supports safe working practice, regulatory compliance and continued professional development within plumbing and domestic heating roles. This course is delivered at our Luckyn Lane campus.

To study this course you will need at least two years’ experience as a qualified plumber.
Water Regulations is assessed through a City and Guilds set examination. Hot water Systems is assessed through a City and Guilds set examination and assignment.
The cost of this course is £400 total (£200 per qualification)
Holding this qualification demonstrates compliance with UK water regulations which is essential for legal installation maintenance and commissioning of plumbing systems. It is often required for working with water authorities joining approved schemes and progressing to advanced qualifications or renewable technology courses.The HWSS course is designed for experienced plumbing and heating engineers who want to work on both vented and unvented domestic hot water systems in line with Building Regulations G3. It is ideal for professionals seeking to upskill comply with legal requirements and join Competent Person Schemes for self-certification under Approved Document.
