Course Overview

The Digital Technologies (Media Pathway) Level 1 Diploma is designed for learners who are interested in using technology creatively and want to explore a range of digital media skills. It suits those who enjoy practical, hands‑on learning and are looking for an introduction to creative digital work before progressing to further study or training. 

Throughout the course, learners explore different areas of digital media production, building practical skills in video production and editing, animation, photography, web design, sound and radio. Learners also develop an understanding of digital publishing, helping them see how creative content is produced, edited and shared across different platforms. 

Learning is project‑based and encourages creativity, experimentation and confidence when working with digital tools. Alongside creative media skills, the course supports the development of maths and English in relevant, applied contexts. By the end of the course, learners will have gained a range of introductory digital skills and a better understanding of creative media pathways. This qualification provides a supportive stepping stone into further digital or creative media courses, helping learners build confidence and direction for their next stage of learning.

To study this course you will need 2 GCSEs at grade 2/grade E including maths or English or an Entry 3 qualification or equivalent. You will also need to have successful attedance at interview/transition event. You will be asked to provide evidence of your ability in the subject which could be in the form of a portfolio.
You will be assessed by project and portfolio‑based learning, planned and completed work, evaluations of your work, and examinations in English and maths.
This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment
Successful candidates can progress to the Level 2 ICT/Creative Media/Games Diploma.
