Course Overview

The Digital Technologies (Media Pathway) Level 2 Diploma is designed for learners who want to develop their creative media and IT skills further, with a clear focus on how the media industry operates. It is suitable for those who already have some basic digital or creative experience and are looking to build confidence, technical ability and industry awareness. 

Throughout the course, learners explore a range of creative media skills, including web design, video production, sound and radio production, photography and digital publishing. Learning is based around practical projects that introduce advertising techniques, stop‑motion animation and the creation of media content for different audiences. Learners also develop an understanding of how media products are planned, produced and targeted within the industry. 

Alongside practical media work, learners gain insight into media audiences and how creative content is shaped to meet different needs and purposes. Maths and English skills are supported in relevant contexts to help learners develop the wider skills needed for progression. 

By the end of the course, learners will have strengthened their creative and technical abilities and be prepared to progress to further study in digital media, creative technologies or related pathways.

To study this course you will require a Level 1 qualification or GCSEs x 2 at grade 3/D in MATHS orENGLISH, Successful attendance at interview event and you will be asked to provide evidence of your ability in the subject which could be in the form of a portfolio.
You will be assessed through project/portfolio based learning, practical tasks, planning of work, completed work and evaluations of work. Examinations in English and maths as necessary.

This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment.

You can progress to the Level 3 Media courses in Computer Games Design and Animation, TV and Film Broadcast or Digital Publishing.
